GMP+ International and Vietnam work together for safe food

Tuesday, December 19, 2017

A delegation of GMP+ International recently visited Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam) for a very special occasion. The Vietnamese food association VHQPBA and scheme holder BSAS will promote the GMP+ Feed Safety Assurance (FSA) certification scheme in Vietnam to enhance feed safety in this country. This is the result of the signing of a collaboration agreement between VHQPBA, BSAS and GMP+ International on November 9, 2017.

The Vietnamese High-Quality Product Business Association (VHQPBA) aims to strengthen its competitiveness in the international market by complying with international quality standards. With the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding in Ho Chi Minh City last month, parties aim to promote and endorse the GMP+ FSA certification in the Vietnamese feed industry and its supply chain.

Possibilities

“Vietnam is a very important market for GMP+ International, especially for feed material and the fishmeal industry”, says Johan den Hartog, Managing Director at GMP+ International. “A growing Vietnamese food industry may very well result in increased interest in GMP+ FSA from mixed feed companies.”

“We look for possibilities on how we can transfer knowledge and open international opportunities for Vietnam”, Den Hartog continues. “Therefore, we created a business development program dubbed Vietnam is safe, Vietnam is Quality. Our focus is to ensure the high quality of the feed (supply) chain and animal food production, with a greater aspiration to safeguard the retail food industry. Especially meat, egg and dairy producers.”

Workshop

Besides the signing of the agreement, GMP+ International held a facilitating workshop that was attended by various companies from the feed and food supply chain in Vietnam. The workshop, titled Food Safety in Animal Husbandry, the Role of Feed Safety Management of Feed Supply Chain, was greatly appreciated by everyone in attendance.

Business Support Application Service Co., LTD (BSAS) is a non-profit organization that operates the ‘Vietnamese High Quality Product – Global Integration Standard’. This scheme promotes international trade, partnership and empowers local producers to sustainably integrate into the global market. The Vietnamese High-Quality Product Business Association (VHQPBA) is a non-governmental and non-profit organization that promotes trade and manages the members of the scheme.

“Working hand in hand, GMP+ International and our Vietnamese partners will work together in aligning feed safety assurance issues in Vietnam”, says Den Hartog. “This will enable Vietnamese food companies in distributing safe animal products for human consumption, both domestically as well as in export, utilizing a feed-food chain approach.”
