Change in BA3 Minimum Requirements Negative List. Under certain conditions, used oils from food factories are now allowed in animal
Used cooking oil (UCO) is included in the list of ‘Forbidden fat & oil products’ in the document GMP+ BA3 ‘Minimum requirements negative list’. Therefore, according to the GMP+ Feed Safety Assurance (FSA) module, UCO’s are not allowed in animal feed.
‘Used food factory vegetable oils’ has been added to the Catalogues of Feed Materials (Regulation EU 68/2013 – product number 2.20.2) last year. Based on this new entry in the Catalogues, the ‘BA3’ with respect to the UCO’s has been amended.
From now on, vegetable oils having been used by food business operators in accordance with Regulation (EC) No 852/2004 for cooking purposes, and which have not been in contact with meat, animal fats, fish or aquatic animals, are allowed in animal feed.
The amended ‘BA3’ can be found here.
It should be noted that before the use of this new product by companies participating in the GMP+ FSA module, this new product must be included in the ‘Product list’ of feed materials. Inclusion in this list is possible through an accepted ‘Risk assessment’ in the Feed Support Products (FSP). Click here for the procedure to include a new product.
