Increased awareness on sharing EWS notifications
With 384 EWS notifications, divided across 283 EWS cases, GMP+ International saw an increase in the number of EWS notifications (250) and EWS cases (167) compared to 2020.
Most contaminations are caused by processes inside the feed company. This could occur because of errors in the production process. To get a better grip on feed safety in your company, you need to keep your knowledge on feed safety assurance up to date. We aim to help our GMP+ Community to control feed safety with several support products. Our Feed Support Products give you support in understanding and controlling hazards.
We received more notifications (+134) than 2020, also from recently GMP+ certified companies. Because we see a relative growth in the number of reports (not only more companies, so more reports), it seems that the awareness on notifying has increased.
Even though we received more notifications, this did not result into any EWS warnings in 2021. The responsibility for handling non-conforming products always lies with the certified company together with its suppliers and customers. We observed thatthe situation are well under control by the companies in the chain: customers were informed, products blocked, and measures were taken to prevent recurrence of the incident. This did not require any additional actions of GMP+ International. The GMP+ certified companies are doing a good job of taking control in the event of incidents!
However, it is still important to stay alert and act as soon as you find any irregularities in your feed. The GMP+ standards are clear on what you should do in case an incident happens. The most important thing is to make sure the product is blocked, and that all relevant parties are informed so they can take measures as well. Besides reacting to the situation, we also advise you to be pro-active, so you are prepared when needed.
We will continue to assess all notifications sent to us via our EWS procedure, to see if there is a need to alert the GMP+ Community. Please use our easily accessible web form in the GMP+ Portal to send us your notification.
You can find an overview of all EWS notifications received in 2021 on the portal. Some of our customers asked us to share the EWS notifications on a more frequent base. As of June 2022 we will upload the EWS notifications every month on the portal.
In this way you can prepare yourself, have insights in the possible risks and act more pro-active.
