Launch GMP+ FC scheme 2020!

Monday, March 1, 2021

The updated GMP+ Feed Certification scheme 2020 will be published on our website on 1 March! After three years of intensive work with all kinds of stakeholders from the GMP+ Community, we proudly present the updated GMP+ Feed Certification scheme 2020 (GMP+ FC 2020)!

The updated GMP+ FC scheme 2020 has been given a thorough overhaul. We want to make it simpler and easier for the GMP+ Community to work with our scheme. The GMP+ FSA and GMP+ FRA modules have been rewritten and simplified in structure. Readability has been improved and there is more focus on the goal to be achieved and less on the process.

In addition, the documents that contain the requirements have been given a new look. The result and potential steps that companies can take to familiarise themselves with the GMP+ FC scheme 2020 are explained in this newsletter.

What has changed (and what hasn’t)?

It is important to note that changing the content of the requirements was not an end in itself. However, it is a fact that the content has changed. This is mainly due to the merging of requirements from different standards. It is also important to note that the general structure of ISO22000 has been followed as far as possible. The high level of feed safety of the GMP+ FC scheme has been retained and, although ISO22000 has been followed, the HACCP system has not been modified in the GMP+ FC scheme.

What can I expect?

With the publication on 1 March in four languages, not a great deal will change immediately for the GMP+ Community. Companies that are currently certified under the current requirements will remain so. GMP+-certified companies will only move to the GMP+ FC scheme 2020 following consultations with the Certification Body.

Transition period

From 1 March 2021, there will be a transition period of 3.5 years. This means that from:

  • 1 March to 1 September 2021 there will be a preparation period. During this period, the GMP+ Community can take the time to look at the new requirements on our website and implement them if necessary. New companies can be certified in accordance with the GMP+ FC scheme 2020.
  • Between 1 September 2021 and 1 September 2024, GMP+ certified companies must be certified in accordance with the GMP+ FC scheme 2020. It is for the company to decide the right moment in consultation with the Certification Body.
  • From 1 September 2024, the whole GMP+ Community will come under the new GMP+ FC scheme 2020. Certification will then only be possible in accordance with the GMP+ FC scheme 2020.
  • From 1 September 2024, the GMP+ FC scheme 2010 will no longer be valid.

More information on the transition can be found in the transition procedure document.

New structure of GMP+ FC scheme 2020 and design of documents

The A, B, C and D documents are no longer part of the GMP+ FC scheme 2020 in their current form. The documents have been classified more efficiently within the GMP+ FC scheme 2020 and their names and/or appearance have changed. You can see how the GMP+ FC scheme 2020 is structured in the figure below. We now work with three layers, the Framework, the Requirements and Support.

Changes to the website

Our website has also been updated. The new documents will be available at www.gmpplus.org. Read them carefully. In them, we explain the structure of the GMP+ FC scheme 2020 and the design of the new documents.

You may like to know that the GMP+ FC scheme version 2010 (the current scheme) will also remain available on our website until 1 September 2024. The link to these GMP+ FC scheme 2010 documents can be found on each page of the new GMP+ FC scheme 2020 and vice versa.

Support

We provide support, guidance and (background) information on the GMP+ FC scheme 2020 by means of our so-called "Support documents". They contain explanations and give examples of how the requirements can be implemented. Cross-reference tables and summaries of changes are also available.

In addition, a special document has been developed for companies with questions and answers about how to start with the GMP+ FC scheme 2020. The support documents can be found on our support page. Naturally we also continue to be available for all questions via our GMP+ Helpdesk.

Did you know that we also work closely with GMP+ Registered Consultants? They can help you with the implementation of the GMP+ FC scheme 2020 for your company.
