Update of GMP+ BA10 Minimum requirements for purchase (1)

Tuesday, March 17, 2020

As a result of harmonization of purchase requirements with other feed safety schemes a new GMP+BA10 Minimum requirements for Purchase is published. The new purchase requirements can be applied immediately. Final date of implementation is on January 1st, 2021.

A few years ago, seven European Feed Safety Schemes started the project Harmonization of purchase requirements. Together they aimed to define the most important requirements for the purchase of feed ingredients. The main goal is to create a level playing field and to avoid barriers between companies who participate in different schemes. The main principle, to define common purchase requirements, has been applied to create an assured (certified) chain, as much as possible.

For several specific supply chains, a common set of gatekeeper requirements have been defined. For the new GMP+ BA10 this has resulted in a number of new gatekeeper protocols. Next to the existing protocols – which have been updated – there are new protocols for:

o Herbs and spices
o Processed feed materials
o Feed for a feed trial

The choice for these supply chains were based on current protocols in one or more schemes. The group ‘Processed feed materials’ is actually a very large group, with a variety of feed materials.

Notification

An important new requirement is that a certified company needs to notify GMP+ International when applying a protocol. This information will be used to evaluate gatekeeper protocols in the GMP+ community and – if necessary – to adapt protocols. A document with Frequently Asked Questions gives more information.

Note

  1. A number of GMP+ certified companies purchase feed materials from non-certified suppliers on the basis of an individual exemption. Unless these exemptions expire earlier, GMP+ International has decided to terminate them on January 1st, 2021.
  2. As a result of these new purchase requirements several (supporting) GMP+ documents will be updated, among them D3.5 ‘Where does GMP+ certification start’.
  3. If you use Country Note for purchase of feed materials, please check the FAQ.
